Boot Camp Time Error

bootcamp

We deploy Dual-Boot Mac’s in our environment and up until this point I had never experienced the “Time Error” which many do experience between OS X and the Boot Camp’ed Windows OS. That was until I started doing new images recently!

I set our machines to look at the in house Time Server. OS X does this fine, but when booting in to Windows (and this is set to the same Time Server) it is always an hour ahead! Very frustrating. Here’s how I fixed it on our images.

Boot in to Windows (XP Pro in this case) and open regedit. Navigate to the following location:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\TimeZoneInformation

Right click in the right window pane and select “New” followed by “DWord” named as follows:

RealTimeIsUniversal

Enter a Value of “1″ and exit regedit.

Next, open up Services and disable the “Apple Time Service” from starting at boot. Reboot and both OS’ should be perfectly syncing!
